SUMMARY:Rhian Cooke: Playing with Wires
DESCRIPTION:Playing with Wires is a presentation of new sculptural and film
works by Leeds-based artist Rhian Cooke at Convention House\, East Street
Arts\, Leeds.\n\nCooke's work questions the connections between our inner
worlds and the networks we inhabit. She films and photographs moments of
magic\, unease and performance in the spaces and objects around us\, then
manipulates them physically and digitally.\n\nThinking about boundaries\,
safety and vulnerability within physical and digital worlds\, the exhibiti
on investigates the tension between them. New materials\, including electr
ical wires\, are brought together with objects such as a scooter and hula
hoop\, which are manipulated into surreal sculptural forms.\n\nHaving pred
ominantly worked with moving image in recent years\, the domestic-like set
ting of Convention House allows Cooke to bring the sculptures out of her f
ilms and into the physical world.\n\nOpening night: Friday 27 November\, 6
pm to 9pm. Open Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November\, and Saturday 5 and Su
 nday 6 December\, 10am to 6pm. Open by appointment Monday 30 November to F
riday 4 December: email rhiancooke@gmail.com. Entry is free.\n\nConvention
House has step-free access and a lift to all floors\, and an accessible t
oilet. Disabled parking is available on request.\n\nFind Rhian Cooke: rhia
